Students also learn dining etiquette and culturally conscious social skills that will enable them to feel comfortable and confident wherever on the globe life may take them.

Unlike many other cotillions, the Jefferson Cotillion is not an invitation-only experience. All students are welcome; diversity is encouraged and celebrated; and tuition and clothing assistance readily available. The cotillion experience is one that allows ‘tweens and young teens to become socially confident. Students will learn four dance steps, as well as dance floor and social interaction/dining etiquette.

Dress

Dress for the entire season of the Jefferson Cotillion is semi-formal. For girls, this generally means a dress or a skirt. Dressy pants (not jeans or forms of athleisure) are also acceptable. Girls’ heels should only be 1/2 inch or below. For boys, a jacket, dress shirt, and tie are expected. Pants should be simple (not cargo, athleisure, or jeans). Hard-soled shoes are best for dancing and sneakers are not allowed. If these items prove to be a hardship, please contact us. We realize that *dressy* pre-teen and early teen clothing is both difficult to find and also often quite expensive.

Please note that for The Holly Ball, boys generally have chosen to wear what they’ve been wearing all season, but perhaps add a more festive tie. Girls often add a bit of sparkle or formality to their dress, but generally stay with a short dress as opposed to long formal ware. Fathers tend to wear suits, although some have been known to choose tuxedos. Mothers wear cocktail attire and occasionally, a long skirt or dress.

 Tuition

$515 ($495 for check or cash payment) for the entire season—includes Holly Ball dinner dance admission for the student and one family member. Scholarships are available. Please contact robyn@thecivilityschool.com for scholarship information. Military families receive a 10% discount with code MILT10.
After registration has ended, we occasionally have room for extra Holly Ball family and/or family friend guests. The additional guest fee is $75.

The Holly Ball

The season will culminate with the Holly Ball, a treasured tradition where the child is accompanied by a parent or other family member for an evening of that includes the traditional Grand March, dining, and dance.
